Overview of Manaslu Larkya La Pass Trek 14 Days

The Manaslu Larkya La Pass trek is Morning Star Treks’ absolute favorite. It is an iconic trek that will lead you through an area surrounding the eighth-tallest Himalaya of the world, Manaslu, 8163 m, which became accessible only since 1991.

For two weeks, the Manaslu Larkya La Pass trek will embrace you in silence, the mystique of the grand nature, the Himalayas, and monasteries that will transport you back 150 years.

On top of it all, the Manaslu circuit trek needs no frightening domestic flights; it has a high success rate, and you will be back home within just two weeks.

And, if you are worried about the altitude, then we have planned enough acclimatization days to enable each one of you to admire the Himalayas at a slower pace.

Additionally, the route we have selected for our Manaslu Larkya La Pass trek will ascend more gradually through the forest and alpine landscape with sleeps arranged at lower altitudes.

The trail of the Manaslu Larkya La Pass trek runs mostly through a significant portion of the Manaslu Conservation Area of the Gorkha District. It is therefore much quieter compared to its neighboring Annapurna trekking trail, which you will connect with at the end of the journey.

However, there will be charming little tea houses for you to sleep and rest in the evening. These are the homes of the innocent Tsum, Nupri, Tamangs, and Gurungs, the early descendants of the Tibetan immigrants who still follow the distinct Buddhist tradition rare to find in other parts of Nepal.

And, since the Manaslu region is under the categorization of the restricted area, a special and a bit pricey permit is essential, because of which not many trekkers venture in this part, and this is what makes the Manaslu Larkya La Pass trek 14 days trip so special.

However, the literal highlight of the Manaslu Larkya La Pass trek is the Larkya La Pass itself rising to 5106 m altitude. You will have the expansive gorgeous sights of Himalchuli (7,893 m), Simnang Himal (6,158 m), Cheo Himal (6,820 m), Gyaji Khang (7,038 m), Saula Himal (6,235 m), Nemjung Peak (7,140 m), Kanguru (6,367 m), Annapurna IV (7,525 m), Himlung Himal (7,126 m), Ngadi Chuli (7,879 m), Annapurna II (7,937 m), Naike Peak (6,211 m), Shringi Himal (7,187 m), Ganesh Himal (7,422 m), Manaslu (8,163 m), and numerous others.

Additionally, as an extra adventure bonus, you will also have the chance to see the magical calmness of Lake Birendra (3460 m) and the snowy universe of the Manaslu Base Camp (4800 m) while resting at Samagaon on the trek.

No other mountain hiking trail in Nepal offers such diversity as the Manaslu Larkya La Pass trek. Fit in the autumn and spring that suits all levels of adventurers, we promise that our Manaslu Larkya La Pass trek is literally pure and authentic, where you will see Nepal in its unique form.

Trip Information of Manaslu Larkya La Pass Trek 14 Days

Weather and Best Season for Manaslu Larkya La Pass Trek

Although it is possible to hike the Manaslu Larkya La pass trek in all seasons, but autumn and spring are more pleasant than winter and monsoon.

The autumn time, running from September to November, will give you clear skies and outstanding white views of the Himalayas. The springtime running from March to May will offer you blossoming trees (especially rhododendron) on the trail.

The approaching summer months running from June to August will more or less soak you during the trek, while it gets very cold and snowy over the Larkya La Pass and Manaslu Base Camp.

Difficulty

The Manaslu Larkya La Pass trek 14 days journey is a category II moderate mountain hiking expedition where we will hike to the maximum altitude of 5106 m.

If we count it on the scale from 1 to 5, it will be 3.5, where the main challenge will come from the thin air of the altitude exceeding 3000 m. But we have planned an excellent acclimatization cycle on the route.

Additionally, the route that we have chosen for the Manaslu Larkya La pass trek has a long lead-up of numerous days before you reach Larkya La Pass.

Thus, compared to other high-altitude trekking expeditions in Nepal, this trek is quite in reach to new hikers as well.

Altitude Sickness/Acute Mountain Sickness/AMS

The AMS becomes visible after you cross the threshold of 3000 m. To subside the AMS occurrence, we have followed the fundamental acclimatization principle and have made every effort to limit the elevation gain to no more than 1000 m each day.

Additionally, a side trip to the base camp of Manaslu, where you will ascend to 4800 m altitude and descend to sleep low, has also been placed. However, the AMS cannot be avoided 100 percent, and some may start to have headaches.

Some may have other early signs as well, such as nausea, vertigo, and fatigue. So make sure you have had drink enough water, and if headache or other signs persist, descend a few hundred meters.

If you are worried AMS will obstruct your Manaslu Larkya La pass trek, then you can buy Daimox, which will ease your breathing. But you may have to often go to the bathroom being its diuretic properties.

Preparation and Fitness

The trails of the Manaslu circuit trek are often well-kept, and you will occasionally meet steep drop-offs and climbs. However, you will not need any technical climbing expertise, so this makes the trek easily reachable to anyone in their prime health and fitness.

Still, if you are not that active, you can train yourself with stair climbing, running, cycling, swimming, and walking. Then, you can engage in some relatively easy treks in Nepal or in your own hometown.

Also, we recommend that you buy and break your hiking boots, pack the right clothing and gear, and get international travel insurance that covers your rescue and search.

Food and Accommodation

Morning Star Treks has secured a double-sharing room at a three-star hotel in Kathmandu with bed and breakfast service on your stay. On the route of the Manaslu Larkya La pass trek, a double-sharing clean and tidy room of a homely tea house will be organized.

Please understand that showers and bathrooms may usually be located outside your room.

Three courses on breakfast, lunch, and dinner will be served every day on your table. Dal Vat will be the constant dish on the menu, followed by momos, noodles, eggs, and many more.

Transportation

Morning Star Treks offers its 4 by 4 private pick-up and drop-off vehicles for your TIA-hotel transports. For the riding journey to Soti Khola from Kathmandu, and from Dharapani to Kathmandu, a local bus will be used.

Again, we facilitate the transport upgrade option to shared or private jeep transfers at an extra service fee.

Communication

You can be easily reachable throughout the Manaslu Larkya La pass trek 14 days journey through the Nepali mobile network of Namaste or NCELL. The 4G service they offer will also help you have almost constant internet signal on the journey.

As for WiFi, most of the tea houses are now able to offer you paid WiFi service on your stay. However, in the highly elevated rugged zone like Dharmasala, the service may not be available at all.

Permit

Manaslu being classified as a restricted area necessitates a special permit called the RAP (Restricted Area permit that usually costs 100 US Dollars in high autumn and spring months and 75 US Dollars in monsoon/summer and winter for each hiker).

Two more conservation area permits for Manaslu and Annapurna will also be essential and available from the Office of Tourism in Kathmandu at 3000 NPR for each hiker.

Travel Insurance

First of all, the Manaslu Larkya La Pass trek is a restricted area hiking adventure for which travel insurance is an obligation. Second, no matter how well-kept the mountain trails are, something may still go wrong.

You may break your leg, or perhaps suffer from severe AMS when immediate Helicopter rescue becomes necessary. In such instances, travel insurance will be your helping loyal friend, bearing all the extra expenses you have not expected.

For the Manaslu Larkya La Pass trek, please buy the international travel insurance that has the helicopter rescue coverage up to 5200 m elevation.

Extra Expenses

Please know that almost all expenses have been covered in our Manaslu Larkya La pass trek 14 days trip cost. Therefore, you will only need to budget a small amount to cover your extra personal expenses during the journey, which include:
