Do you want to gain a deep understanding of the genuine lifestyle in Nepal, but don’t want to go too far from the city? Yes, then come on the Tamang Heritage Trek with Morning Star Treks, a hiking trip characterized by intense nature and cultural experiences.

The unusually beautiful Tamang Heritage Trek is made for anyone who likes to glance at REAL Nepal, provided they can manage a few days with modest and humble comforts. You will also get to stay with local families for a day or in very simple lodges.

But, this is the beauty of our Tamang Heritage Trek 7 days expedition, a true hiking adventure that remains untainted by commercialization and is enriched by the natural and cultural landscapes.

This journey is also perfect for those short on time but wish to discover the unparalleled beauty and magical culture of this ancient land. If you are in Nepal for a maximum of 20 to 24 days, you can plan to take the Tamang Heritage Trek after finishing your main adventure.

This trek will take you 30 km north from Kathmandu towards the Langtang Valley, a Valley of Glaciers, located inside Rasuwa district near Tibet. A significant portion of this trek passes through the woodlands and forests of Langtang National Park, beginning and ending in Syabrubeshi.

Walking through the stunning scenery, raging rivers, and deep, quiet forests, you will watch peaks of the Langtang range, Shishapangma, Manaslu, Ganesh, and Sanjen that reach the heavens.

However, the true highlight of our Tamang Heritage Trek will be traversing the villages of Thuman, Tatopani, and Briddim, where you will meet the melodious Tamang People, the descendants of the Tibeto-Burman lineage who love to live a simple lifestyle.

They grow their own food and sell local products along the ancient trading routes between Nepal and Tibet. They live in carved small but warm wooden houses and often still wear their traditional attires.

During our Tamang Heritage Trek 7 days trip, you will briefly experience their time-stamped Buddhist customs and traditions. You will get their excellent service at their tea houses and eat local delicacies.

In summary, our Tamang Heritage Trek is an easy, low-altitude, all-season round-trip hike with the highlight of Tamang culture against the backdrop of Langtang and Ganesh.

So, if you like to feel close to heaven, join our Tamang Heritage Trek, even if you are a beginner. Experience the remarkable mountain universe and rich cultural heritage of the north Himalayas and be in the heart of it all.

itinerary-icon

Time to set out on our Tamang Heritage Trek with our guide and porter. From Kathmandu, the long paved road belonging to the Pasang Lhamu Highway sets off north towards the very beautiful and green Trishuli Valley.

Now, the typical unpaved road of Nepal commences as we progress through two gorgeous mountain settlements of Betrawati and Dhunche. With the Nepalese countryside in view, the road will dive down, carrying us to Syabrubeshi.

It’s heartwarming to see Manaslu, the Langtang range, and Ganesh shining at a far distance. We are already inside the Langtang National Reserve, where villagers are largely of Tibetan and Mongolian descent.

Trip Information of Tamang Heritage Trek

Weather and Best Season

Our Tamang Heritage Trek occurs in the lower Langtang Valley, where you can find subtropical weather. Summers will be humid with daytime heat appearing from 20 to 30 degrees Celsius.

Monsoon, on the other hand, will be quite heavy, bringing the potential risk of landslides. Thus, the Tamang Heritage Trek 7 days journey, will be particularly suitable in September, October, and November with consistent autumn weather and dry walking trails.

March, April, and May will also be suitable, with spring climate engulfing the Langtang forest in thick bushes of rhododendrons. December, January, and February will be the third-best time for the Tamang Heritage Trek, offering you bright sunny days and azure skies. However, expect some snow on Nagthali Danda.

Due to possible landslides, it is wise to avoid June, July, and August rainy days.

Difficulty

Langtang Tamang Heritage Trek is a very simple, low-altitude profile I natural and cultural hiking adventure with maximum elevation limited to 3200 m at Nagthali Danda.

The total walking trail runs 53 km long inside the woodlands and good dirt roads of the Langtang National Park. The daily walking distance is also limited to 10 km and an elevation increase of under 500 m each day.

The trekking trail is also a non-technical route comprising only one moderately steep section of Nagthali Danda. Thus, the Tamang Heritage Trek will be very appealing to those who are just stepping into their mountain adventure in Nepal.

Altitude Sickness

On our Langtang Tamang Heritage Trek, the everyday altitude does not go beyond 3300 m, and our walking route also passes through beautiful forests and jungles, thus eliminating the severe threat of Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS or altitude sickness).

However, we cannot fully eliminate its possibility because we will be sleeping above 2500 m for two nights, where the oxygen amount is a little bit lower than at sea level.

So if you start to go through sleep disturbances, nausea, headaches, and fatigue, it is normal as they are just the early and mild indicators of AMS that will go on their own with a few hours of rest or sleep, along with abundant water intake.

Diamox is not necessary for this trek; however, the decision to take it will be a personal one (only take it with a doctor’s prescription). Abundant water intake will be the primary measure to prevent AMS on the Tamang Heritage Trek.

Preparation and Fitness

Our Tamang Heritage Trek has been designed as a very simple and accessible journey for all, involving one moderately steep section. Therefore, you don’t have to be highly athletic, agile, or strong to participate in this trek.

If you are a person who stays active and regularly engages in exercises to keep fit, then you won’t need any special training or fitness program. However, if you find yourself more of a couch potato, then preparing yourself with basic exercises such as running, cycling, walking, swimming, or playing sports will help you get ready for the Tamang Heritage Trek.

However, remember that the Tamang community are very humble and modest, and so are their staying arrangements. So it will be slightly challenging for those who are used to the comforts of home, so it is wise to learn about it through videos and vlogs related to the Tamang Heritage Trek.

Food and Accommodation

During our Tamang Heritage Trek 7 days journey, all your overnight stays will be arranged in neat, tidy, and comfortable tea houses, which are basically the homes of the local Tamang community converted into lodges.

Most of these tea houses are beautifully carved wooden structures that will provide you with a private room featuring two beds, a mattress, blankets, and pillows.

In Briddim, you will stay in one of the local homes with a Tamang family and experience their true life and food.

Please understand that throughout the trail of Tamang Heritage Trek, the sanitary facilities may have to be shared among travelers. In the tea houses, you can make a request for charging and hot water as well for a small additional sum.

Regarding the meal arrangements Morning Star Treks has made for you, breakfast, lunch, and dinner will be presented on your table throughout the trek with fresh fruits each evening.

Meal choices may not be that varied, but momo, Tsampa, Thukpa, and Chhyang are must-try local dishes.

Transportation

Since the Tamang Heritage Trek represents the true nature journey, we want you to experience real Nepal. So we have arranged a local public bus for your round-trip travel between Kathmandu and Syabrubeshi.

However, if you feel that the local bus ride will be a bit tiring for you, you can also upgrade your transport arrangement to a private or shared jeep for a small extra sum.

Communication

Since the Tamang Heritage Trek is so close to Kathmandu, there will be no trouble with mobile connectivity. The NTC or NCELL mobile network, the leading mobile network in Nepal, offers outstanding coverage along the entire trail of the Tamang Heritage Trek.

You can acquire these SIM Cards in Kathmandu, or you can also buy their eSIM cards from home and activate them as you touch down in Kathmandu.

These networks also deliver 4G/LTE for a convenient data connection. As for WiFi, the tea houses along the Langtang Tamang Heritage Trek trail do offer it for a small extra sum

Permit

The complete journey of our Tamang Heritage Trek 7 days trip, takes place within the safeguarded territory of the Langtang National Park. Since it is a protected area, we will require a park entrance permit to access the path inside this park.

Likewise, the Tamang Heritage Trek also necessitates the TIMS Card (Trekker’s Information Management System), which ensures the safety and rescue of all hikers in case of emergencies.

Our guide will procure these permits at the entry point in Dhunche, just before we reach Syabrubeshi. A fee of 3000 NPR per person for the National Park and a payment of 2000 NPR for the TIMS Card will be required.

These fees have already been factored into the total cost of our Tamang Heritage Trek 7 days trip.

Travel Insurance

Kindly note that Morning Star Treks is very aware of the safety and security of each of its clients, as well as its staff accompanying you on any mountain adventures in Nepal.

We offer the mandatory insurance for each of our staff; however, you will have to get your own personal international travel insurance before you get on board for any mountain treks in Nepal.

This implemented rule is incredibly important not only for the procurement of the mandatory trek permits but also for safeguarding your own security on the mountain trail of Nepal.

The Tamang Heritage Trek is also a mountain hiking journey that, although it does not reach the extreme Himalayan height but it does lead you through the thick foliage and woodlands.

The road conditions here are not as accessible as in cities, and sometimes, helicopters remain the only mode of transport for rescue and evacuation.

Therefore, for our Tamang Heritage Trek, we suggest you get the insurance coverage for the helicopter evacuation to an altitude of up to 3200 m.

If you consider adding the medical and accidental protection along with the miscellaneous travel coverage, such as extended stays, trip delays, and baggage loss, your protection will be more comprehensive.

Extra Expenses

Morning Star Treks has factored all your expenses related to your meals, accommodation, permits, and travel arrangements during the trek. Therefore, you will have to spend only a minimal amount to cover your personal extra expenses that may arise during the journey.

However, please note that your overnight stays in Kathmandu, meals, transport including TIA, and hotel transfers are not included in this trip service.

Also, you will need to manage the costs of your personal travel insurance, your Nepal flights from your home, and the Nepal Tourist Visa on arrival.

When you are on an actual trek, you will have to pay in situ for the usage of hot showers, WiFi, charging your phones, beverages, and of course any personal shopping such as tips for our staff (guide and porter, not mandatory but suggested), extra porter if needed, snacks, etc.

Likewise, if any natural event such as landslides occurs, then extra unplanned stays may be needed, which will not be covered in our service charge.
